“Babe, I need to talk to you,” Kelly said.
“You look so serious.”
“It’s sort of serious.”
“Okay. Lay it on me. You have my full attention.”
She didn’t answer. She stood, moved her chair around in front of his, and sat back down. Knees to knees. Then she took both of his hands and turned them over in hers, rubbing the backs of them with her thumbs the way she did when she was working up to something.
“What is it, baby?”
She looked up. Her eyes were full.
“Talk to me. Whatever it is, it’s okay. Just say it.”
Kelly took a breath.
“Tim, I’m pregnant.”
